Просмотров 76 тыс.11 лет назад
Beatles' Manager Brian Epstein is interviewed in New York City by Murray the K for WOR-FM Radio in March 1967. Epstein had travelled to New York to announce the merger of his company NEMS with the Robert Stigwood Organisation, and to promote Stigwood's premier acts the Bee Gees, Cream and The Who. This is the complete raw interview, minus a Janis Ian song which I have removed for copyright purp...

Scott Walker gives a rare interview to the BBC Culture Show to discuss 'The Drift'. Originally broadcast 30th March 2006.
Imagine how much money Brian 💰 made and what the boys didn't imagine😊 all the beatles stuff 😢
Brian was instrumental in breaking The Beatles. According to Peter Brown's book, Brian was pretty drunk and on downers & speed during this interview.
It is true what they say about the press/media.. The only real truth in the media/press is the date and the weather and often they get that wrong. All the rest is mostly gossip and speculation. The media is all about getting sales and Peoples attention. Because of that, the media is sensationalist. Life is not like that at all. It's just another day, very like yesterday and most of the rest of the content is just good old fashioned advertising. People believe the news in the media at their peril. There is nothing new under the sun. I dont know who first said this but it's particularly spot on when speaking about news and the media."There is nothing new under the Sun". The truth is.. life is so mundane and "Everyday" in this man,s opinion. People will do and say anything just to Spice it up but it's definately nothing out of the ordinary and for sure it's nothing that deverves the attention of any real journalist..Remember.. "There is nothing new under the Sun".
Cowards
He worked as a fudgepacker in his spare time.
What a terrible non-energetic interview. Brian was loaded
I love Ringo 4ever but it's hilarious when Brian says during their pre-Pepper break that Paul wrote a film score, George went to India, John acted in a film...and Ringo sat in contemplation.
excellent!!
To think he would be dead five months later, this stands as a very important interview. Unfortunately Murray the K, instead of giving the spotlight to Eppy, goes on way to much with his own perspective and analysis, when he should have just asked his questions and let Brian go.
He's so wasted on pills here.
Don't get me wrong, I admire the man because he was a visionary
Yes Brian had a relaxing voice , do you think it was because he was coming down from a Seconal high? 🤣
Murry the k just likes to hear himself talk
Sadly Murray the K died kind of young too in 1982 from cancer at only age 60.
George Martin Says In This book his biography,All You Need is Ears,There's No Doubt Lennon and McCartney Were good Musicians,They Had Good Musical Brains and The Brain Is Where Music Originates,It Has Nothing To Do With Your Fingers,As It Happened They Could All Play Their Own Instruments Very Well,And that Paul is an excellent music all- arounder, probably the best bass guitar-player there is, a brilliant guitarist,a first class drummer and a competent piano player. George Martin said in The Beatles early days he tried to learn to play the guitar in order to have a better musical communication between him and The Beatles, but he couldn't learn it and gave it up,but he says that John and Paul learned to play the piano far more quickly than he was able to master their instrument.
I'm really surprised that Murray asked if The Who were the first to smash their guitars and that Brian said yes, because it was actually The Beatles who smashed their guitars in Hamburg Germany when they played 8 hours a night in the sleazy strip clubs from 1960-1962 years before The Who.
Sadly Brian died only 5 months later from a drug overdose at only age 32.
Ringo murdered him.
Only the good die young
Superb upload. Love it. Thx💙.
Without Brian Epstein we would not be talking about the Beatles in 2023. Brian died 5 months after this interview may god rest his soul.
Fascinating interview, description and selection of pix thanx nice one Matooli ❤🎉
Excellent interview! Thanks for posting this!!!
It's sad Brian never lived to see one of his other bands at that time The Bee Gees rise to Ultra stardom selling hundreds of millions of records far far more than the who or the cream combined ever sold.I wonder what he wold have thought about Saturday Night Fever and The Bee Gees moving to Contempary R&B/soul.
I’m sure he would be over the moon about it, & also not surprised cause he trusted his instinct. 😊
Probably the most consequential death in rock and roll history. So sad.
if he had lived, the band wouldn't have had such business problems 🎉
Epstein was a financial disaster for The Beatles, they lost a massive amount through his mismanagement, they were continually ripped off to a ludicrous degree because he had no idea how to negotiate, no idea as to what percentage they could actually get and he would not delegate to those who did.
Brian knew music period ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Great interview by a DJ who normally is obnoxious to British ears.
Surprisingly good interview for an American DJ who obviously brushed up his Ps & Q's to interview a British gentleman, which he was. John told Brian to count the money & leave the music to them, which he did but must have hurt him to be told to stay away from Abbey Road. The Beatles in hindsight should have been more considered to Brian & realise he now felt rejected by those he moved heaven and earth to get them a record contract & planned their every move out of the studio. They were lucky to have him & should have been more grateful really.
Brian struggling to recall the song"For no one" haha.....what a tremendous guy......rip Brian,
It is a brave thing, to give this interview, when you are actually very depressed - correct me if I’m wrong.
Eppy's one true unrequited love, John Lennon :(
Media in march of 1967: "They are breaking up!" May of 1967: They release Sgt. Pepper.
This interview is from March, he died later this year in August.
Thanks for the perspective, I was wondering.
Sadly, only 5 months before he died. Some excellent, rare photos here too.
😢😢😢 a alma dos Beatles
He’s very in intentional asmr
Gee! For a radio guy Murray sure can’t seem to stop with his cough drop and cellophane noises it makes the interview very annoying to listen too!
He wasn't the shrewdest manager, but he was honest and loyal to the end. Being closeted probably contributed to his suicide.
😢😢
Was it a suicide or a cocktail of pills by accident?
A true gentleman, Brian Epstein. Very sad he died so young.
I'm from Liverpool and a lot of us here think he was muRdered. ....🎼 ca'baal;((( rip Brian 🤍🕊️🙏
😢😢
One would have to agree ❤
I'm surprised they still had anything nice to say about Maureen Cleave. Her original article read like a hit piece. It was very unflattering, to say the least.
I've commented elsewhere on other channels. However I'd like to add here. Many people say Brian was okay the week he died. However his dad only died 6 weeks or so before Brian did. Brian's voice here is not the articulate man he was in the early days. I'm no expert but I'd say he's suffering from early stages of depression. Seems like he's heard much of the Qs before. Personally I've always doubted the Beatles originality. Even Lennon called it Beatles myth. I think they were manufactured eventually. Couldn't have written all those songs in such a short time frame. They were average musicians and even George Martin employed session musicians in their early days. Initially rejecting them saying they were rubbish to Brian. George Martin was the composer of most of the tunes. He even played piano on lots and lots of their famous songs. Eleanor Rigby was his idea. S'thing doesn't seem true about Brian's death. Did he know something and was too late to go back. Or was he killed off? One day the truth will come out when they're all gone. It'll be a massive thing....ask Fauls ex wife from Newcastle. She was freaked out on breakfast TV years ago.
Discordo totalmente, Brian era a alma do Beatles, mais tinha dificuldades em lidar com sua homossexualidade, ele não suportou..😢😢
They wrote all their songs- especially when you see the documentary Get Back. Plus you can see how they all have their own style. You can’t make that part up. George Martin didn’t write Eleanor Rigby, he just worked on the arrangement for the strings. He arranged a lot of things but that’s not writing …arrangement is arrangement.
In the photos, all four of them look very satisfied and secure with Brian. The only true manager for the Beatles. Only Brian could have hold them together as a team.
After this Sgt Pepper is released & once could scarcely consider Mr Epstein suicidal. Sorry - the persecution of the Beatles & any other anti-war artists or activists by intel spooks must have been real. Did they threaten sexual blackmail of Mr Epstein, the way they did MLK?
Oh wow I didn’t think about that, good point. I could see Brian wanting to protect the boys from that scrutiny on the heels of the “Jesus comment controversy “
Think it was a night time interview why he was so tired sounding
What movie does Brian keep talking about?
Yellow Submarine, the tv show being Magical Mystery Tour.
I like the photo at 6.30 during the Shea Stadium concert 23 august 1966 and at 31.10 with Paul.
As usual the Americans get the low-down before anyone else. Even the flight attendant knew the score. Contracts yes. The Big Deal! Epstein had sold their contract to Stigwood and the Beatles refused to let it be. They had no intention of deferring to anyone including the Bee Gees. This interview was done in March 1967. Brian passed in August of the same year. Cause of death remains a conundrum.
😢😢
It is amazing how good his musical taste was, and how ahead of the times. After listening to this interview I looked up who he put on in his Savile theatre, and he was so sound in his tastes of who performed, Hendrix, Cream, Pink Floyd, The Who. Also interesting to hear him talk about Beatlemania as in the past, something they had moved on from.
